Het is niet zo dat de straaljagers van de ene op de andere dag luchtoverwicht kunnen bevechten. Allereerst zal het maanden duren voordat piloten getraind zijn om de F-16’s te kunnen gebruiken.
Noch een onverzoenlijke Zelenski, noch een dwarse Poetin kan ontsnappen aan de historische wetmatigheid dat aan elke oorlog een einde komt, zegt Rob de Wijk in podcast Boekestijn en De Wijk op BNR. De huidige bloedige patstelling impliceert dat de oorlog eigenlijk geen kantelpunten van betekenis heeft. Zelfs de levering van de F-16 zal geen game changer zijn. ‘De enige game changer is de inzet van kernwapens.’
Het conflict in Oekraïne zit vast, schrijft Rob de Wijk in zijn column voor Trouw. Westerse wapenleveranties hebben er tot nu toe voor gezorgd dat Oekraïne niet verliest, maar zijn geen gamechanger. Ook op de hoogste niveaus wordt ingezien dat een uitzichtloze patstelling dreigt en dat uiteindelijk een politiek vergelijk onvermijdelijk kan zijn.
