Friso Stevens joins HCSS as new Strategic Analyst!
HCSS is delighted to welcome Dr Friso Stevens as a Strategic Analyst, where he will strengthen our work on international relations theory, military strategy, and foreign and defence policy. Friso brings extensive expertise on the changing character of war, from hybrid conflict to emerging military technologies, alongside more than a decade of research on Indo-Pacific security and Chinese foreign and defence policy. His appointment further expands HCSS’s expertise on the strategic challenges shaping Europe's evolving security environment.
Markus Iven joins HCSS as new Strategic Analyst!
HCSS is very pleased to announce that Markus Iven has joind us as a new Strategic Analyst, focussing on grand strategy, transatlantic security and defence! Previously, Markus served as a reserve officer at the German Military Delegation to NATO in the Strategy, Plans and Policy Branch. On joining HCSS, he commented: “For me, HCSS combines data-driven methods and strategic thought in a way few institutes can. As Europe is relearning to think strategically, there is no better place to be!”

This new HCSS report by strategic analyst Davis Ellison concludes that the days of relying on the U.S. as the primary guarantor of European security may be coming to an end. The transatlantic partnership will not disappear overnight, but significant changes are underway. Europe must prepare for a future where it will play a much larger role in its own defence and security affairs.
