HCSS was honoured to welcome Dr. Celeste Wallander, Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs in the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Policy at the U.S. Department of Defense, for a visit to our offices yesterday.
She joined HCSS senior strategic analyst and chair of the Initiative on the Future of Transatlantic Relations programme Paul van Hooft, director of research Tim Sweijs and strategic analysts Frederik Mertens, Benedetta Girardi and Davis Ellison for a discussion on trans-Atlantic cooperation in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Russian nuclear coercion, and the return of great power competition in Europe and Asia, as they provided an in depth look at the HCSS research programmes Europe in the Indo-Pacific, the Future of Transatlantic Relations and Strategic Stability: Arms control and Deterrence.
