Twee oorlogen, de ene nog uitzichtlozer dan de andere, vragen de aandacht van de wereld. Als Israël of Oekraïne verliest, dan worden de kaarten in het Midden-Oosten en Europa hertekend. En als de conflicten escaleren, dreigen regionale oorlogen met kernwapenmogendheden in de hoofdrol. Soms vraag ik mij af of wij Europeanen, in tegenstelling tot de Amerikanen, überhaupt doordrongen zijn van de ernst van de situatie, schrijft Rob de Wijk in zijn column voor Trouw.

Europa reageerde verdeeld en apathisch op de oorlog in Israël en de Gazastrook. Hoog tijd dat het zich herpakt, schrijven HCSS strategisch analisten Gerben Bakker en Tim Sweijs in het Financieele Dagblad. Het is tekenend hoe weinig Europa van deze situatie wakker ligt.
