China heeft wereldwijd de macht over die grondstoffen afgelopen jaren enorm versterkt. Dat is gevaarlijk, omdat de beschikbaarheid van kritieke grondstoffen en halfproducten voor de industrie de basis is voor de economie en essentieel voor veiligheid, energietransitie, en digitalisering, benadrukt hij in Nieuwe Ankers met Paul van Liempt.
Minister van Defensie Ruben Brekelmans, Navo-secretaris-generaal Mark Rutte, de koning en admiraal Rob Bauer deden pogingen om ons mentaal op oorlog voor te bereiden. De lacherigheid waarmee hierop werd gereageerd in Nederland was veelzeggend, schrijft Rob de Wijk in zijn column voor Trouw. Het wordt tijd dat we naar onszelf leren kijken. Dat begint met een mentaliteitsverandering, gebaseerd op het besef dat veiligheid en welvaart geen natuurtoestanden zijn, dat daarin geïnvesteerd moet worden, dat dit harde keuzes eist en dat polarisatie die in de weg staan.
“Deze analyse van de Nationaal Coördinator Terrorismebestrijding en Veiligheid (NCTV) bevestigt het beeld dat er een aantal groepen in Nederland een extremistische dreiging kunnen vormen”, zegt HCSS strategisch analist Gerben Bakker bij EenVandaag. “De bevoegdheden van de veiligheidssector zijn een beetje verouderd, waardoor het toch lastiger is om bijtijds te kunnen zien of iemand radicaliseert. Dat maakt het lastig om preventief te handelen.”

“Wat in Oekraïne gebeurt, kan hier ook gebeuren,” zijn de alarmerende woorden van NAVO secretaris-generaal Mark Rutte. Hoe realistisch is die oorlogsdreiging? HCSS defensiespecialist Peter Wijninga: “Er vindt op dit moment al een hybride oorlog plaats. Cyberoperaties, spionage en sabotage. Er worden per dag honderden aanvallen uitgevoerd op allerlei instanties in Europa. Vanuit Rusland, maar ook vanuit China.”
