HCSS is very proud to announce that Jeffrey H. Michaels has joined us as a (non-resident) Strategic Advisor in Defence and International Security! His research covers the fields of war studies, nuclear strategy, deterrence, U.S. foreign policy, NATO, intelligence, and Cold War history.
On July 23rd, HCSS data scientist Maarten Vonk presented his research at the International Conference on Information Processing and Management of Uncertainty in Knowledge-Based Systems (IPMU2024) in Portugal. In his peer-reviewed paper, “Optimizing Causal Interventions in Hybrid Bayesian Networks”, Maarten shows how heuristic optimization can be used to retrieve policy-interventions using a discretization and knowledge compilation approach.
