Jesse Kommandeur is a trained Data Scientist and Strategic Analyst at HCSS, where he bridges the gap between quantitative and qualitative research. His research portfolio focuses on the intersection of technology, society, and policy, particularly in the context of national and international security and geopolitics.
At the HCSS Datalab, Jesse has been responsible for the development and deployment of open-source tooling and dashboards—such as DAMON, GATRI, and GINA—integrating NLP and generative AI technologies into strategic analysis workflows. He has experience designing and implementing secure, end-to-end data solutions in geopolitical and security-related contexts.
He holds two BSc degrees, in Business Administration and Information Sciences, and earned his MSc in Data Science (cum laude) from the University of Amsterdam. In previous roles, Jesse has led data-driven research projects for stakeholders including the Port of Rotterdam and the Dutch Police Academy. Before joining HCSS, he spent over three years at the University of Amsterdam, where he lectured at the Institute of Informatics and supervised research projects focused on digital societies and the threats of emerging technologies.
