Jesse Kommandeur is a trained Data Scientist and Datalab Manager at HCSS, where he bridges the gap between quantitative and qualitative research. His work focuses on the intersection of technology, society, and policy, particularly within the domains of national and international security and geopolitics.
At the HCSS Datalab, Jesse leads the development and deployment of open-source tools and dashboards—such as DAMON, GATRI, and GINA—that integrate NLP and generative AI technologies into strategic analysis workflows. He has extensive experience designing and implementing secure, end-to-end data solutions in geopolitical and security-related contexts.
He holds two BSc degrees, in Business Administration and Information Sciences, and an MSc in Data Science (cum laude) from the University of Amsterdam. Prior to joining HCSS, Jesse led data-driven research projects for stakeholders including the Port of Rotterdam and the Dutch Police Academy. He also spent over three years at the University of Amsterdam, where he lectured at the Institute of Informatics and supervised research on digital societies and emerging technological threats.
