Webinar co-organized with the Embassy of Japan: “Preventing conflict in the Indo-Pacific”

March 1, 2022

On February 17th, the Embassy of Japan in the Netherlands and HCSS held a well-attended webinar on ‘Preventing conflict in the Indo-Pacific: Opportunities for cooperation between Japan and Europe’. The webinar began with a speech by Ambassador Horinouchi and featured a keynote speech by Professor Tanaka Akihiko, President of the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) with the title ‘The Rise of the Indo-Pacific; Opportunities for cooperation between Europe and Japan’.

Dr. Tim Sweijs, Director of Research of HCSS, was the moderator. Dr. Jagannath Panda, Coordinator of the East Asia Centre, at the Institute for Defense Studies and Analyses (IDSA) and Dr. Paul van Hooft, Senior Strategic Analyst of HCSS, attended the webinar as panelists. They discussed the cooperation between Japan and the EU in the Indo-Pacific region.

This is the first event (co-)organised by the new HCSS “Europe in the Indo-Pacific Hub (EIPH)”. The HCSS Europe in the Indo-Pacific hub is open to co-organizing both private and public events with partners.
