Tim Sweijs to speak at DIIS seminar on NATO’s new strategic concept

November 8, 2022

On November 11, HCSS director of research Dr. Tim Sweijs will speak at a seminar on “NATO’s new strategic concept in light of the Russian full-scale aggression against Ukraine”. The seminar is organised by the Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS), in cooperation with the NATO Defense College and the Center for War Studies, University of Southern Denmark.

In its new strategic concept, NATO addresses the fundamental changes in the Euro-Atlantic security environment caused by the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, strategic competitors, emerging and disruptive technology, and malicious hybrid tactics, while the threat of terrorism and instability continue to affect the security of NATO allies and partners.

Bringing together internationally renown NATO experts, this panel debate asks how NATO’s 2022 strategic concept will be implemented in practice. What will NATO’s 360-degree approach require from its allies and partners? How will these requirements be met; what is necessary? What are the Alliance’s and concept’s strengths in today’s complex security environment; what are weaknesses and potential points of conflict?
