Following the success of the first and second Talks, we are thrilled to invite you to the third and final installment of The Hague Strategic Foresight Forum Talks: The Future World Order, now open to the public!
In our last event, experts concluded that inequality lies at the heart of rising global tensions. The recent re-election of Donald Trump, running on the “America First” platform, means this message will most likely be placed on the back burner, with strategic competition between the US and China taking centre stage.
Key questions to explore include:
- To what extent will the US and China try to shape this future world order?
- Can Europe remain a key player amidst great power competition?
- Should multilateral institutions such as the UN reinvent themselves to stay relevant?

Dr. Michael Mazarr
Michael J. Mazarr is a senior political scientist at RAND and a professor of policy analysis at Pardee RAND Graduate School. Previously, he worked at the U.S. National War College, where he was professor and associate dean of academics; as president of the Henry L. Stimson Center; senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies; senior defence aide on Capitol Hill; and as a special assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Mr. John Lee
John Lee is director of consultancy East West Futures and a researcher at the Leiden Asia Centre. He is currently a visiting fellow at ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute, National University of Singapore, and was a senior analyst at the Mercator Institute for China Studies. John previously worked at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Department of Defence. He focuses on China’s advanced technology industries, including microelectronics, the automotive sector, telecoms and internet of things technologies. John’s research areas also include China’s cyberspace regulation and governance, and military applications of artificial intelligence. He co-leads the China Semiconductor Observatory project funded by the European Union.
This event promises a thought-provoking exploration of key global challenges.
