HCSS is pleased to announce that Remco Mulder has joined our team as a Strategic Analyst!
Remco has served as an officer in the Royal Netherlands Army for over 16 years. He started his military career as an armoured platoon commander. Since then, he has served in various units and has been deployed to Africa. After completing the brevet Hogere Wetenschappelijke Vorming (Staff College), he served at the Royal Army Head Quarters as a lieutenant-colonel. He is currently seconded from the Ministry of Defence to HCSS.
He holds a master’s in political sciences and is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Leiden and the Netherlands Defence Academy. His research focuses on how to accelerate and improve adaptive military decision-making while dealing with uncertainty.
Remco brings extensive military expertise and experience, with a particular strength in decision-making in uncertain environments.
On joining HCSS, he stated:
“I’m very thrilled to start working at HCSS. Current times increasingly call for a better general understanding on military topics, ranging from the war to Ukraine to defence and resilience in the Netherlands. Providing understanding on these topics to different organisations as well as the larger public is important and something I would very much like to contribute to. Yet, there is also a lot for me to learn at HCSS, as in knowledge and experience I hope to bring back with me to the Ministry of Defence. Because of one thing I am confident, a strategic understanding of our current environment requires a diversity of perspectives, and the ability to connect different disciplines, experiences and ways of thinking.”
