On May 23rd, the U.S. Mission to the Netherlands, in cooperation with The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies, organized a panel discussion on Strategic Competition, 5G, and the Geopolitics of A.I.
Distinguished speakers included Ms. Hester Somsen (Director for Security Policy, Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Dr. Michael J. Mazarr (Senior Political Scientist, RAND Corporation), and Dr. Tim Sweijs (Director of Research, The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies).
Mike Mazarr framed the issue in the context of current international competition, Tim Sweijs discussed in detail Artificial Intelligence and 5G, and Hester Somsen provided the Dutch government’s perspective on these issues. About 70 policymakers, academics, USG exchange alumni, parliamentarians, students, and other influentials then engaged in a lively Q&A session with the speakers.
