Stephanie Govaerts joined HCSS in December 2023 as the Communications and Events Officer. In this position, she is responsible for developing and executing communication strategies, materials and PR for HCSS publications, projects, media appearances, events and more. In addition to managing the HCSS social media channels, Stephanie also runs the South Africa-Netherlands Cyber Security School (SANCS), the Indo-Dutch Cyber Security School (IDCSS) and the Global Commission on Responsible AI in the Military Domain (GC REAIM) social media accounts. Outside of her Communications role, she also helps organise HCSS events and assists with Studio HCSS.
Stephanie holds a MSc in Crisis and Security Management from Leiden University, specialising in the Governance of Radicalism, Extremism and Terrorism. She also holds a BSc (honours) in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Erasmus University College where she did a double major in International Relations & Political Science and International Law, and a minor in Criminology.
Prior to joining HCSS, Stephanie worked as the Junior Communications and Events Officer at the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT) following the completion of her Editorial internship at ICCT. Prior to that, Stephanie worked as a Social Media Manager for the Visual Rebellion Myanmar Collective, a project under the NGO ‘Human Rights in the Picture’ which aims to promote human rights and create awareness about the military coup in Myanmar by providing a platform to display art and creativity as an act of resistance.
