Communications and Events Officer

Stephanie Govaerts joined HCSS in December 2023 as Communications and Events Officer. She works on the development and delivery of communications across HCSS publications, projects, events, and media engagements. She also manages HCSS’s social media channels and contributes to Studio HCSS.

In addition, Stephanie is involved in several HCSS initiatives, including research on the Breakdown of the International Order, the Southern Africa-Netherlands Cyber Security School (SANCS), the Indo-Dutch Cyber Security School (IDCSS), and the Global Commission on Responsible AI in the Military Domain (GC REAIM). She also contributes to the HCSS Boardroom programme and has been involved in the organisation of high-level events and international engagements, including events during the NATO Summit 2025, such as the NATO Public Forum.

Stephanie holds an MSc in Crisis and Security Management from Leiden University, specialising in the Governance of Radicalism, Extremism and Terrorism. She also holds a BSc (Honours) in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Erasmus University College, where she completed a double major in International Relations & Political Science and International Law, with a minor in Criminology.

Prior to joining HCSS, Stephanie worked at the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT), first as an Editorial Intern and later as Junior Communications and Events Officer. She also worked as Social Media Manager for the Visual Rebellion Myanmar Collective under the NGO ‘Human Rights in the Picture’.
