David Gompert will pay a visit to The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies

September 21, 2011

Friday 7 October 2011 Mr. David Gompert will pay a visit to The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies.

David Gompert looks back on a long and distinguished career in the military (US Navy), in various key policy and intelligence positions in both Republican and Democratic administrations (State Department, National Security Council), in the private sector (as President and Vice-President of respectively Unisys and AT&T) and in the think tank world (in various positions in the RAND Corporation, including a 3-year stint as President of RAND Europe in Leiden from 2000-2003).

Since leaving RAND Europe, David served as a Senior Advisor for National Security in Iraq (2003-2004) and in 2009-2010 first as Principal Deputy and then also as Acting Director of National Intelligence, thus serving as President Obama’s chief intelligence advisor. He is one of the most thoughtful and creative thinkers and writers on US national security matters. In his presentation, David will present a global security tour d’horizon with special attention on China, nuclear proliferation, the changing nature of Al Qaeda, and various hot spots. He will share with us his thoughts on the future US security stance (taking into account prospective defense spending cuts) and will end by offering us some personal views about Europe’s role and responsibilities.

This debat is only on invitation. The Hague Strategic Forum has the title: ‘Global Security Challenges and Policy Options: Reflections from a (Friendly but Firm) American’
