Kees van Rij | Beyond the Negotiating Table: An Expert’s View on Diplomacy.

September 28, 2023

On the 27th of September, former ambassador and HCSS Strategic Advisor on International Affairs Kees van Rij gave a presentation and Q&A on diplomacy and negotiations to 180 students at the University of Amsterdam.

Kees van Rij is one of the Netherland’s most trusted diplomats, having held ambassadorships in Greece, Turkey, Spain and Brazil. From negotiating with the likes of Vladimir Putin, Muammar Gaddafi or Kim Jong-il to helping craft EU policy, Kees van Rij has been trusted with many of the major diplomatic issues over the past decades.

At the “Beyond the Negotiating Table: An expert’s View on Diplomacy” event, organised by Room for Discussion, the interview platform of the University of Amsterdam, he shared his extensive experience with the audience and interviewers Elias Marseille and Nayantara Ranganatha, as well as trying to answer the many questions concerning diplomacy.
