In recent years, Turkey decided to invest heavily into nuclear energy in order to offset its dependence on import of fossil fuels. At present, Turkey imports well over 90% of its oil and natural gas resources. Whilst it’s making a push towards renewables, it also committed to building a number of nuclear energy plants, having three facilities planned so far. The third plant is to be built partly with Chinese nuclear technology. However, China has no real track record building such plants abroad, raising questions about the wisdom of inviting the Chinese to help construct this third plant.
