HCSS is hiring: Project Management & Communications Internship

HCSS is seeking a highly motivated, extremely organized and independent individual within a dynamic team. The intern will be working closely on the ‘Global Commission on Responsible Artificial Intelligence in the Military Domain’ (GC REAIM), which is an initiative of the Government of the Netherlands that was launched during the 2023 REAIM Summit on Responsible Artificial Intelligence in the Military Domain in The Hague. Upon request of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the Hague Centre for Strategic Studies (HCSS) acts as the Secretariat of the Commission and will organize, among other things, multiple high-level meetings around the world. The first meeting will take place in July in Washington D.C., with two more meetings taking place this year in Seoul and Stellenbosch. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to   

  • Contribute to the project management of the Global Commission and assist in organizing multiple international events 
  • Handle phone, e-mail and written requests of analysts, clients and stakeholders 
  • Play a crucial role in supporting the logistics, administration and coordination of travel-related activities for our organization and the GC REAIM Summits 
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with strong communication skills 
  • Creating and posting social media content in various forms for our different communication channels, including a newsletter 
  • Managing the website; via WordPress (experience with WordPress is considered a plus) 

Requirements  

  • Team player with excellent English written and verbal communication skills 
  • Creativity and attention to detail 
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks independently 
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to cultural differences 
  • Proficiency in MS Office 
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills 
  • Affinity with social media platforms Twitter(X) and LinkedIn, familiarity with Canva is considered a plus 

Eligibility  

  • Availability: the internship is full-time. Candidates must be able to commit to working 40 hours a week.   
  • Candidates must be enrolled as a student (HBO/WO) for the entire duration of the internship. 
  • Successful candidates are asked to provide a certificate of good conduct (‘Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag’), available from the Dutch Ministry of Justice. Candidates residing outside of the Netherlands should provide a certificate from their country of residence.   

What we offer  

  • A paid internship € 675,- per month. 
  • The duration of the internship is 6 months. 
  • The candidate will be given the opportunity to interact with a group of highly notable and experienced international experts working on AI, and will gain valuable skills, experience, knowledge, and contacts in the international governance community.  
  • A small team at HCSS that moves at a fast pace to support a truly global initiative.
