De Strateeg: ‘Er wordt te mooi weer gespeeld over gas’

De gasprijs staat inmiddels ruim boven de 300 euro per megawattuur. Toch hoeven we ons volgens Gasunie geen zorgen te maken dat we komende winter geen gas hebben. Dat is misleidend, stelt CDA-Tweede Kamerlid Henri Bontenbal in de nieuwste aflevering van De Strateeg. Hij vreest dat de prijs nog veel hoger op zal lopen en dat mensen dan alsnog in de kou komen te zitten komende winter.

Volgens Bontenbal is de vraag of er voldoende gas is of niet, niet relevant. ‘Daar gaat het niet om Er is in principe altijd gas, tenzij Noorwegen stop. Alleen de prijs die dan betaald moet worden is zo ontzettend hoog. Ik maak me echt enorm zorgen om de maatschappelijke en economische impact van zo’n hoge gasprijs.’

Energiedeskundige Lucia van Geuns, van het Den Haag Centrum voor Strategische Studies, sluit zich bij Bontenbal aan. Zij waarschuwt dat we ook na komende winter nog met hoge energieprijzen te maken zullen hebben. Volgens haar kan het nog wel tot in 2024 duren voordat de energieprijzen weer gaan zakken, met alle gevolgen van dien. ‘Dan zitten we eigenlijk in de zelfde situatie, tenzij Rusland gas gaat doorvoeren.’
