Peter’s professional background is in the European Institutions (Commission and Council) and in the British Civil Service. Much of his career has been in international relations, covering international environmental agreements, sustainable development, external trade and commodities. He has a strong interest in sustainability and economic security issues.
In his last job at the European Commission, Peter worked on industrial policy, specifically energy-intensive industries and raw materials. He led the work on the EU Critical Raw Materials Act and negotiated the EU’s strategic partnerships on critical raw materials. Before that, he worked in the Secretariat General as head of the policy coordination unit responsible for the Energy Union and Circular Economy.
Peter is now a consultant on sustainability and resilience. In addition to his role as a strategic advisor with HCSS, he is a senior associate of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership and a special advisor to the Paris Peace Forum’s Global Council for Responsible Transition Minerals.
Peter studied French and political science at the University of Bristol and public administration at France’s Ecole Nationale d’Administration (ENA).
