The Hague Security Delta would like to invite you to the upcoming HSD Café on Digital Forensics. We are also happy to announce that during this event the official opening of the research lab Digital Forensics & E-Discovery will take place. This lab is located at the HSD Campus and is part of Leiden University of Applied Science. Given this opening, please note that the HSD Café will start thirty minutes earlier than usual.
Forensics & Crime Scenes
As our living environment moves more and more towards the digital domain, various types of crime are making a similar transformation. Whereas crime scenes of the past are characterised by a physical “search area”, containing visible traces, today’s crime scenes are different as the perpetrator is no longer required to be present physically. Obviously, this fundamentally alters our approach to forensics, as traces are becoming digital, rather than physical. This requires law enforcement agencies to change accordingly.
Today’s World & Trends within Forensics
During this HSD Café, we will discuss (digital) forensics in todays world. What does it encompass? What are the differences and similarities compared to traditional forensics? And how will the research lab contribute? What will it look like? And what role does the private sector have in all this? We have invited two stakeholders from different branches of the triple helix to share their knowledge and expertise on this subject.
The HSD Café is set up as follows:
From 15:00h until 15:30h, the registration-procedure will take place. Please make sure to be on time as we like to start at 15:30h.
From 15:30h until 16:00h, the official opening of the research lab Digital Forensics & E-Discovery will take place (7th floor) with opening speeches by Director Patrick Pijnenburg of Leiden University of Applied Sciences and HSD executive director Richard Franken.
From 16:00h until 16:30h, the following experts will share their insights on the matter through brief presentations:
• Hans Henseler (lector Digital Forensics & E-Discovery) will introduce the research lab and outline its importance in today’s changing security environment.
• Hans van der Heijden (National Centre of Expertise Digital Forensics, National Police) will explore opportunities in regard to public-private partnerships.
From 16:30h onwards, the brief presentations will be followed by a discussion, in which the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions and share their views.
From 17:00h onwards, the bar is open for drinks and there will be ample opportunity to network.
