In the wake of the attacks in Paris on November 13, French president François Hollande has been on a quest to get various countries in line to provide support to military action against ISIS. Apart from seeking support from U.S. president Obama, Hollande is also calling on Russian president Putin to gear its military operations in Syria more towards ISIS.
However, seeking support from Russia is likely to unsettle countries in eastern Europe which do not want to see sanctions against Russia softened or lifted as a result. The position of Germany will be crucial in this, as a dilemma seems to emerge in choosing between European unity versus Russia or European unity versus ISIS.
