On January 17 of this year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations of the Netherlands and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom hosted a seminar titled the Security of Energy Supplies: the Role of NATO and Other International Organisations in Brussels. The seminar was organised by the Hague Centre of Strategic Studies in cooperation with the Clingendael International Energy Programme and the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research.
An audience of over 150 participants attended the seminar, consisting of energy experts from NATO- and EU-countries, NATO-, EU-, OSCE-, and IEA-staff members, and representatives of energy multinationals and academia. The seminar facilitated a vivid and fruitful exchange of ideas on the role of NATO and other international organisations in analysing, mitigating and responding to threats to energy supplies, especially with respect to the protection of critical energy infrastructure. The seminar was intended to contribute to discussions in the Alliance in the run up to the Bucharest Summit on the areas where NATO may add value to safeguard the security interests of the Allies.
