The Water, Peace and Security (WPS) partnership will take part in World Water Week 2024 in Stockholm, Sweden, and online. Institute delegates will speak at several events, and host an information booth.
World Water Week 2024 is centered on water cooperation, for peace and security in its broadest sense. The theme, Bridging Borders: Water for a Peaceful and Sustainable Future, asks us to recognize the regional and global interconnectivity of communities and nations, and underscores the collaborative effort needed to achieve a peaceful and sustainable future.
On Thursday 29 August, join WPS for the online session “Water, Peace, and Security: Innovation to Action – Lessons learned”, from 10:00-11:00 CEST.
Yasir Mohamed, Sundus Al-Ogaidi, Alyssa Offut, Marleen van der Kooij and Nicola Chadwick will delve into the intricate dynamics of water management, conflict resolution, and sustainable peace. The session will provide a comprehensive overview of the water-security nexus, highlighting the complex and multifaceted nature of water-related conflicts and the diverse strategies for their mitigation.
Specifically, the session aims to:
- Educate and Inform: Enhance understanding of the water-security nexus and conflict mitigation strategies;
- Knowledge Exchange: Share global and regional experiences in addressing water conflicts;
- Empower Participants: Equip participants with tools for conflict analysis and resolution to apply in diverse contexts;
This session is convened by the Water, Peace and Security Partnership, the Stockholm International Water Institute, the International Federation of Red Cross and the Government of the Netherlands.
