Turkey to enhance presence in Asia with China’s new bank

January 19, 2016

In an interview with Ankara-based Anadolu Agency, Willem Oosterveld said that Turkey and Turkish companies have a clear stake in the country’s membership of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), as Turkey is a key western terminus of China’s One Belt, One Road (OBOR) initiative. The AIIB is the principal vehicle for financing projects relating to the OBOR. As Chinese president Xi Jinping visits the Middle East this week, he is expected to help steer the OBOR project towards safe implementation as the region is going though a period of high volatility.
