How should Europeans respond to ideological and geopolitical challenges by Russia and jihadist movements in the Middle East? Soul-searching to try and come to terms with our colonial and war-ridden past is not enough. Faced with ideological battles, Europe and the West needs to craft a equally convincing response that re-affirms their core values. Not just in enabling people to live together, but also to provide meaning to people’s lives in a secular age.
