Nataliya Popovych: How the EU and the Netherlands are portrayed on Russian State TV

May 24, 2018

On May 24, The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies (HCSS) hosted Mrs Nataliya Popovych, President of One Philosophy Group and Co-Founder of the Ukraine Crisis Media Center (UCMC).  Nataliya has been at the forefront of Ukraine’s efforts to manage the strategic narrative around her country.  Within 24 hours of Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014, she and her colleagues rallied professionals from the public relations and journalism worlds and set up UCMC to amplify Ukraine’s voice internationally. UCMC was featured in the Ukrainian case study in HCSS’ report Inside the Kremlin House of Mirrors.

Nataliya presented some fascinating findings from a recent study by the UCMC’s Hybrid Warfare Analytical Group on how the EU and the Netherlands are portrayed on Russian TV. For more information on the project, please see here. There are also videos available on their findings on France’s image (in English) and the UK’s image on Russian State TV.

Nataliya is the Founder and President of One Philosophy – a multidisciplinary  group of companies growing organizational leaders and talents, reputations and trust, identities and experience and helping clients to stay relevant in the fast changing world. Nataliya is a Co-Founder and Deputy Chair of the the Ukraine Crisis Media Center. With over 20 years’ experience in Ukraine, the USA and Russia, she advises on reputation strategy, brand development, executive coaching, crisis management and strategic communications. In 2014-2016 she led an initiative to reform public sector communications in Ukraine, building strategic communications capacity across a number of ministries, the president’s administration and defense agencies, organizing a number of resilience-building campaigns and promoting a unified information policy for the country. Some of you will remember Nataliya from her starring role in the Future Force Conference organized by the Netherlands Ministry of Defence in 2017.
