HCSS events for UN Water Week 2023

Join us at the UN Water Week in New York (and online)! Together with our partners HCSS will be co-hosting a number of side events for the 2023 UN Water Week.

The Weather Makers Project

On the 24th of March from 09.30 – 10:45 AM EST, HCSS hosting a Side Event inside the UN Headquarters with The Weather Makers. HCSS senior strategic analyst and climate expert Laura Birkman will be presenting the HCSS security assessment framework, developed for the broader The Weather Makers project. The Weather Makers is a company and network of specialists, researchers and designers in the field of holistic water cycle and biosphere restoration, both in water and on land. HCSS Senior Strategic Analyst Laura Birkman and HCSS Special Strategic Advisor Tom Middendorp will also speak at the event.

Water, War and Peace (WPS)

Likewise, on the 24th of March from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM EST, HCSS is taking part in a session on Water, War and Peace as part of the Water, Peace and Security (WPS) consortium with Pacific Institute, Circle of Blue and World Resources Institute. Learn more about WPS. During the session, strategic analyst Irina Patrahau will presents WPS’s work on water security in Iraq.

Water and Security Serious Game

Finally, on Wednesday March 22 from 15:00-17:00 CET or 09.00 -11.00 EST HCSS is hosting a online Climate & Security serious game with Deputy Director Michel Rademaker. Participants will take part in a moderated serious game focused on the case study of the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt. This serious gaming exercise will: create awareness and understanding of the complexities behind conflict-sensitive water management, promote decision making in climate-vulnerable areas and stimulate the development of innovative ideas that could support conflict sensitive water management strategies in the Sinai.
