Grote toekomst voor aardmetalen (NL)

‘Het Midden-Oosten heeft olie, China heeft zeldzame metalen’ zei Deng Xiaoping, de voormalige Chinese staatsman, in 1992. De recente WTO-klacht van de VS, Japan en de EU tegen de Chinese exportquota op zeldzame aardmetalen lijkt hem gelijk te geven. Maar Beijing’s grondstoffennationalisme heeft importlanden ook aangespoord naar manieren te zoeken om onder de exportafhankelijkheid van deze aardmetalen uit te komen. Daarvan worden nu de eerste successen zichtbaar. Dit biedt ook economische kansen voor Nederland.
