The planned Nord Stream II gas pipeline between Russia and Germany risks upsetting the foundations of the Energy Union, given that the pipeline increases dependence on Russian gas supplies at a time when the European Commission is keen to do the exact opposite. The key to blocking the initiative may lie with the European Commissioner for Competition, Margrethe Vestager says Sijbren de Jong to Danish weekly magazine ‘Monday Morning’.
