Brigadier General Pak Shun NG is Group Chief, Policy & Strategy and Group Chief, Plans & Transformation at the Singapore Ministry of Defence. He is responsible for security policy formulation and strategy development, strategic futures analysis, long-term planning, and organisational transformation efforts. His portfolio includes emerging and disruptive technologies with impact on international security, such as outer space, autonomous weapons systems, and artificial intelligence in the military domain.
Prior to his current appointments, he served in various command and staff appointments at the Republic of Singapore Air Force, including the Head of Air Training Department, Head of Air Plans Department, and Commander of the Air Defence and Operations Command. In these roles, he developed plans and initiated experimentation incorporating the use of artificial intelligence to improve operational and training outcomes, such as to enhance resilience and efficiency in airbase operations and better determine pilot potential in ab initio trainees.
He first graduated with Bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Public Policy Studies and a Master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Chicago. He then received a Bachelor’s degree in Translation and Interpretation (English/Chinese) from the Singapore University of Social Sciences, and a Master’s degree in Sciences Historiques, Philologiques et Religieuses from the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes. He subsequently obtained an MBA at the MIT Sloan School of Management.
