Water, Peace & Security Conference 2019 hosted by HCSS

September 24, 2019

From the 16th to the 19th of September the Water, Peace & Security Conference 2019 took place at HCSS, bringing together high level officials from various departments within the Dutch government, the UN and other organisations.

Acknowledging the importance of water for preventing, mitigating and resolving conflicts and building peace, the aim of the Water, Peace and Security (WPS) project is to enable relevant public, private and civil society actors to timely and effectively address and mitigate the threat of water-induced conflict and harvest the benefits of water-related cooperation and peacebuilding.

The Water, Peace and Security (WPS) Partnership is a joint effort by IHE Delft, Deltares, the Hague Center for Strategic Studies, International Alert, Wetlands International and the World Resources Institute, supported by New America, Oregon State University, the Pacific Institute and Clingendael. The Partnership designs innovative tools and services to identify water-related security risks– including information and analytical tools, capacity building services advisory services and dialogue tools – that help relevant actors to timely identify, analyze and prevent, mitigate and resolve water-related conflicts while contributing to stability, resilience and peace.
