On 27 October the special elective course on ‘Geo-Economics’ kicks off at Leiden University, Campus the Hague. The course is taught by HCSS Strategic Analyst Dr. Sijbren de Jong and focuses in detail the contests between great powers, such as the United States, Russia, China and India, for access to natural resources, energy and strategic Sea Lines of Communication. Questions of scarcity of energy and resource conflicts will also be discussed. Among other things, students will be taught about major maritime choke points, such as Hormuz and Malacca, but also the decreasing influence of Russia in Central Asia and the consequences of this development.
The course spans a total of seven lectures from 27 October until 19 November and includes special guest lectures given by high-level speakers from NATO and the energy industry. More information can be found here.
