Anna Hoefnagels is a Strategic Analyst at HCSS, where her research focuses on geopolitics, shifting international orders, and the Indo-Pacific. Her interests include the evolving dynamics of great-power competition, the strategies of emerging and middle powers, and the interplay between the Indo-Pacific and Europe.

Prior to becoming as Strategic Analyst, she previously joined HCSS as an Assistant Analyst. During this time, she conducted and contributed to research on India’s strategic positioning within the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, China’s use of legal and institutional tools to reshape the international order, and Western policymakers’ perceptions of Russia prior to the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. She has also worked as a Research Assistant at the Clingendael Institute’s China Centre.

Anna holds a BA (magna cum laude) in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Utrecht University, majoring in political science and law, and holds an MSc in International Relations and Diplomacy from Leiden University.
