HCSS is pleased to announce that Luuk Boekestein has joined our team as a Data Scientist!

He combines his technical background in data science with a strong interest in its applications to geopolitics to derive policy-relevant insights from a range of quantitative and qualitative data sources.

Prior to joining HCSS, Luuk worked as a research assistant for a project at Uppsala University focusing on large-scale armed conflict prediction (VIEWS), and helped develop and evaluate their forecasting pipeline. Previously, he also completed an internship at a small machine learning start-up based in Amsterdam.

Luuk holds a BSc in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Amsterdam University College, where he majored in data science and minored in international relations. He also holds a MSSc in Peace and Conflict Studies from Uppsala University, specialising in quantitative research methods and data-driven forecasting.

On joining HCSS, he stated:

“I’m very excited to join HCSS as a Data Scientist, where I can apply my data skills in a more policy-connected context and combine my technical background with my interest in international relations and geopolitics. I think the Datalab offers a unique environment for working on the intersection of these fields, and I look forward to contributing to the research and analysis at HCSS!”
