HCSS is very proud to announce that Tom Driessen will be joining us as Strategic Advisor Organized Crime & Policing. With his considerable expertise in the security field and the nexus between the political and administrative domains, he will provide valuable insight into current security risks within the (inter)national legal order, developments within police policy and the necessary development of a vision and strategy in the field of combating internationally organized crime and modern policing in our society.
Driessen started his career as a police inspector in 1979 when he graduated from the Police Academy in Apeldoorn. In 1990 he graduated as BSc in Business Economics & Data Science, in 2000 he graduated at Utrecht University as Exec. Master Public and Police Management and in 2004 he completed the Defence Strategic Leadership Course.
During the 1980’s he worked as a police commander in the centre of The Hague, and since the early 1990’s he has led several major investigations and investigative teams, such as the Inter-Regional special investigation Teams. He was the first Director of the National Bureau of Investigation in the Netherlands and later the deputy Director of Europol. During these years he was also the International Vice-President of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
Driessen also served as the Director of the National Bureau for International Police Cooperation. In this position he was responsible for the first police-missions abroad, in both UN and EU context. Most recently, he acted as director of the multidisciplinary Strategic Knowledge and Intelligence Center for organized international crime.
