On 4 and 5 June, HCSS director defence transformation Stephan de Spiegeleire chaired a SMI conference on Effects Based Operations: Mission Planning 2008. The conference discussed challenges of planning in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the most recent developments of the Joint Mission Planning System (JMPS) and NATO’s Air Command and Control System (NATO ACCS).
This conference covered both the technological improvements in mission planning systems as well as the significant challenges of interoperability and standardization. Key military players outlined civil military cooperation and the challenges of planning within coalitions. Technical experts discussed real-time mission planning, technical challenges and system requirements.
This event discussed the significant changes in mission planning technology since our previous Mission Planning conference in 2006 including new tools that have been developed to plan complex missions in Iraq, Afghanistan and in International Peace Operations.
