Zorgen om zeldzame aardmetalen (NL)

De opwekking van duurzame energie komt ernstig in de problemen nu China de export van de broodnodige zeldzame aardmetalen steeds verder beperkt. Een vervanger ligt vooralsnog niet direct voor het grijpen.

Aardmetalen zijn op zich niet echt zeldzaam, zo steekt Jaakko Kooroshy, beleidsanalist bij het Den Haag Centrum voor Strategische Studies (HCSS), bedachtzaam van wal.

„Ze zouden gewonnen kunnen worden op zo’n 850 plekken op aarde. Op slechts tien daarvan worden ze echter commercieel uit de bodem gehaald.”
