What happens when algorithms don’t just shape our newsfeeds, but influence military decisions and the course of war?
On Monday, the 9th of February, Sofia Romansky, Strategic Analyst at HCSS and Project Coordinator for GC REAIM, will examine the expanding role of AI in defense.
Over the last couple of years, AI has become increasingly more integrated into every aspect of our lives. On the individual level, it has affected the ways in which we interact with each other and information, on the state level, it has impacted strategic decisions, relations, and the course of wars. Zooming in on this final dimension, this lecture will provide an introduction to the many opportunities, but also corresponding challenges, that lie at the nexus of AI and defense. It will sketch the ethical, legal, operational, and institutional dilemmas that we must face in order to reap the benefits to faster and greater data processing, ultimately pointing to the need to (re)assess the role of human agency in this new era of AI.
