RD: „Opkomst extreemrechts bedreigt stabiliteit op de Balkan” volgens HCSS rapport

De opbloei van gewelddadig rechts-extremisme in Zuidoost-Europa bedreigt de politieke stabiliteit in die regio, vooral in Kosovo, Bosnië en Herzegovina en Servië. Deze conclusie trekt het The Hague Center for Strategic Studies (HCSS) in een woensdag gepubliceerd rapport, schrijft Reformatorisch Dagblad.

De grootste externe bron van destabilisatie in de regio is volgens het rapport te wijten aan inmenging van Rusland. Om de loyaliteit van de Balkanlanden aan de rest van Europa te verminderen, gebruikt Rusland allerlei strategieën om tussen de landen tweedracht te zaaien en etnisch-nationalistische sentimenten op te wekken, stelt onderzoekster Arlinda Rrustemi.

„In Bosnië en Herzegovina probeert Rusland bijvoorbeeld moslims als gevaarlijke fundamentalisten neer te zetten, waardoor islamofobie wordt aangemoedigd. Soortgelijke claims worden gedaan tegen moslims in Kosovo in een poging de inspanningen van de staat om internationaal te worden erkend als een soevereine natie te ondermijnen”, zegt Rrustemi.

De opkomst van extreemrechtse tendensen blokkeert niet alleen de democratische vooruitgang in deze landen, maar kan ook toetreding tot de Europese Unie bemoeilijken, waarschuwt Rrustemi.
