Turkey’s general election of last Sunday saw President Erdogan’s AKP party regain a majority in the Turkish parliament. The election results grant Erdogan an unexpectedly strong mandate against a backdrop of regional trouble that is making Turkey’s relationships with its external energy suppliers more complicated. Negotiations on ‘Turkish Stream’, a Russia-backed natural gas pipeline across the Black Sea, have been dragging on for months with a definite agreement on a price discount for Turkish state-owned oil and gas company Botas still forthcoming.
