Nidas Brandsma joins HCSS as new Data Scientist!

October 20, 2025

HCSS is very pleased to announce that Nidas Brandsma has joined us as a new Data Scientist.

Nidas has a strong foundation in physics, econometrics, programming and advanced analytics. With academic training that bridges the natural sciences, quantitative methods, and applied business insights, Nidas is developing expertise at the intersection of data, strategy, geopolitics and decision-making.

He completed a BSc in Physics at TU Delft, followed by a pre-master in Econometrics at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Building on this, he earned his MSc in Econometrics, specialising in Business Analytics and Quantitative Marketing, also at Erasmus. Alongside his academic and professional development, he had been actively engaged in student committees and boards. Previously, Nidas gained practical experience during his internship at the HCSS DataLab, where he contributed to data-driven research and the development of multiple dashboards.

Outside of his professional interests Nidas is passionate about sharing knowledge and culture as a tour guide in Rotterdam, Delft, and The Hague. With a bicultural background – half Lithuanian, half Dutch – he brings an international and inclusive perspective to his work and personal endeavours.

On joining HCSS, he commented:

“From studying physics and econometrics to joining HCSS, my journey has always been about asking the right questions. Now, I’m excited to apply that mindset to data-driven research in security and geopolitics. It feels like the perfect next step.”
