The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies (HCSS) co-hosted a high-level side event during the Munich Security Conference’s Allies at Ankara programme, held alongside the NATO Summit in Ankara.
Represented by Strategic Analyst Davis Ellison, HCSS co-organised the panel “Mind the Gap: Can Europe Build a More European NATO?” together with EDAM – Centre for Economics and Foreign Policy Studies and Tagesspiegel. The discussion brought together senior military, diplomatic, and industry leaders to examine Europe’s evolving role within the Alliance and the future of European security and defence.
The discussion featured an outstanding line-up of speakers:
- General Carsten Breuer, German Chief of Defence
- Burçin Gönenli, Director General for International Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye
- Burcu San, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Operations
- Camille Grand, Secretary General of the Aerospace, Security and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD)
The conversation examined the opportunities and challenges of enhancing Europe’s contribution to NATO, addressing questions of capability development, burden-sharing, and the future of transatlantic security cooperation.
HCSS thanks its partners, speakers, and all participants for contributing to a timely and engaging discussion on one of the Alliance’s most pressing strategic questions.
