Essay Han ten Broeke | Ya es hora de que Europa piense y actúe como una superpotencia

Este análisis debate las implicaciones de la guerra de Ucrania para el papel activo de Europa en el ámbito de la seguridad y la defensa.

En este análisis [1] se exponen los motivos por los que la invasión de Ucrania por parte de Rusia ha exacerbado la necesidad de contar con una política europea de defensa exterior más sólida. Lo que se propugna es que debería producirse lo antes posible. No solo por la posible reelección de Trump, sino también por los autócratas en el seno de la OTAN y la UE. Incluso si vuelve a ganar Biden, seguiría existiendo la necesidad de desarrollar un pilar europeo dentro de la OTAN. En el análisis se establece así una agenda no para que la UE “se convierta en un superestado”, sino en una “superpotencia” incipiente, de acuerdo con las palabras de Ursula von der Leyen, presidenta de la Comisión Europea. Se examinan algunas de las medidas y reformas que se deben implantar después de las elecciones europeas de junio de 2024 y se presenta un esbozo de una política integrada de exteriores y defensa en la UE.
