Geopolitical Annual Volatility Risk Index
GAVRI – The Geopolitical Annual Volatility Risk Index (GAVRI) is a metric developed by HCSS in collaboration with WTC to quantify the influence of geopolitical developments on global trade. Designed as a practical tool for policymakers and business leaders, GAVRI delivers a single, digestible figure that reflects the annual state of geopolitical stability and its impact on international trade dynamics.
in cooperation with:
Launched with a baseline score of 100 in 2025, the index integrates a diverse range of open-source indicators across economic, military, and diplomatic domains. These include measurable factors such as trade interventions, conflicts, and diplomatic behavior—such as state visits rhetoric and voting patterns within multilateral institutions like the United Nations.
GAVRI is updated annually, offering a consistent and comparative reference point over time. An upward shift in the index signals improving geopolitical conditions conducive to trade, while a downward trend indicates rising instability and potential disruptions in the international trade environment.
