HCSS is pleased to announce that Thijs van Aken has joined our team as a Strategic Analyst!
In his previous role as Assistant Analyst, he contributed to the Strategic Monitor Police, Progress and various serious games focused on resilience and strategic capacity analyses. Starting as an intern at HCSS, Thijs advanced to his current role as a Strategic Analyst through his commitment and expertise.
Prior to joining HCSS, Thijs worked for a political scientific bureau at which he contributed to European and national election manifesto’s, an edited book on the future of Europe and the bureau’s magazine. As a part-time policy officer for the Dutch National Student Association (ISO), he advocated for stronger internship rights and innovation of education.
Thijs holds BSc in Political Science with a specialisation in International Relations and Organisations from Leiden University. At the same university, he graduated with a MSc in Crisis and Security Management (cum laude) with a specialisation in the Governance of Radicalism, Extremism and Terrorism. During his studies, Thijs developed a strong interest in both the future of European security as well as national security questions related to societal resilience, radicalisation and extremism.
On joining HCSS, he stated:
