On November 10, 2016, Stephan de Spiegeleire gave the ‘breakthrough speech’ at the European Defense Agency’s annual conference in Brussels. His presentation, titled “And Now… The Future!”, was a clarion call for Europe to take the lead in the transition towards a post-industrial form of ‘armed force’. The conference was attended by approximately 500 representatives from across the European defense spectrum – governments, armed forces, industry, EU institutions, NATO, think tanks and media.
