On September 9, 2014 The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) published the Uranium 2014 Report, also known as the Red Book. The report finds an increase in uranium demand, supply, exploration and production. In the past two years, seven per cent more uranium resources have been identified, due to a 23 per cent increase in uranium exploration and mine development expenditures. Furthermore global uranium production has continued to increase, mainly in Kazakhstan, the world’s leading uranium producer. On the demand side nuclear capacity projections in East Asia and non-EU European states continue to grow. The rising demand for uranium has led to plans for mining operations in new countries as Botswana, Tanzania and Zambia.
