In February 2015, the European Commission adopted its strategy for the creation of a European Energy Union. The objective is, among other things, the completion of an internal energy market and ensuring security of supply. The strategy comprises deepened political integration, major common investments in infrastructure for gas and electricity as well as foreign and security policy implications.
