Sofia Romansky joins HCSS as a new Strategic Analyst

September 6, 2023

HCSS is excited to announce that Sofia Romansky has joined as a new Strategic Analyst!

Sofia Romansky is a Junior Strategic Analyst at HCSS. Her primary research interests concern Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, deterrence, as well as issues around narratives and disinformation in online spheres. As an intern at HCSS in 2022, Sofia conducted research on the military use of information in the first seven months of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Sofia has also researched the green transition in the military as part of the Young Thinkers program of the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS). As a Young Thinker, Sofia spoke on a panel at the NATO Youth Summit.

Sofia holds a bachelor (cum laude) in Politics, Psychology, Law, and Economics with a specialisation in Politics and a minor in Communication Science from the University of Amsterdam. Sofia also holds a  master’s (cum laude) in International Relations and Diplomacy from Leiden University and Clingendael, where she wrote her thesis on the role of digital humour in Ukrainian responses to Russia’s invasion.

Joining HCSS means being in the right place at the right time to provide accurate and relevant information to key decision makers as they shape the world of tomorrow. Acknowledging how conceptions of European security have changed since 2022, being at HCSS provides me with the opportunity to act as an intermediary between, amongst others, the Dutch and Ukrainian perspectives.
